Pokemon Heart & Soul · v2.0

Pokemon Heart & Soul v2.0 Features

v2.0 leans into the things that make Johto memorable: trainers who call back, a radio that belongs in the Pokégear, better puzzles, more flexible challenge settings and a Kanto worth revisiting. Add 92 HGSS TMs, Gen 7 movepools, the GB Player and more, and this is our biggest step forward yet.

New version, new save.

v2.0 is a major update and saves from older Heart & Soul versions are not compatible, so begin this version with a fresh adventure.

Trainer numbers matter again

Swap numbers, hear from trainers again, and return for rematches or items—the kind of small interaction that gives Johto so much of its personality.

  • Heart & Soul v2.0 brings back Pokégear trainer registration and the GSC-style rematch loop, including returning rematches and new ones.
  • Registered trainers can call when they are ready to battle again or when they have an item for you. Spending time on their route can help move rematch readiness along.
  • Prefer a quieter journey? Incoming trainer calls can be turned off.

Feature Reveal 02

The radio is back where it belongs

v2.0 puts a full radio inside the Pokégear, bringing back Crystal-style channels and adding new Heart & Soul touches of its own.

  • The radio includes the Crystal channel lineup alongside new material. Oak & Mary's show has been updated, and Buena's Password returns with new rewards.
  • Hoenn Sound can be heard in Kanto and affects rare Hoenn encounters there.
  • Radio music can keep playing after you close the Pokégear, so the station can follow you into the overworld.

Feature Reveal 03

Ice Path is about puzzles, not reaction timing

The old reaction-time bike sections are gone, replaced by Strength boulder puzzles that fit the Johto adventure much better.

  • Ice Path and Seafoam use Strength boulder puzzles instead of the previous Mach Bike reaction sections.
  • The icy areas also get a new cave battle background so battles match the place you are exploring.

Feature Reveal 04

Play Johto your way

Giving you control over the run is a big part of Heart & Soul. v2.0 lets you revisit challenge settings after you start, so one early choice does not have to define the whole adventure.

  • Challenge options can be revisited after the run begins. Where a difficulty, randomizer or nuzlocke-style setting could make the run harder, the game only lets you move in the easier direction after starting.
  • A Gen 7 movepool option is available, giving access to moves through Generation 7 while keeping the game's Pokemon data choices separate from that movepool setting.

More in v2.0

The four reveals are only part of the v2.0 story.

Kanto, TMs, movepools, music and the postgame all get their own upgrades too.

More room for v2.0 to grow

Heart & Soul v2.0 now runs on pokeemerald-expansion. For players, that means room for the broader v2.0 systems and future growth; it also means older saves do not carry over.

A Kanto worth returning to

Kanto gets updated maps and tilesets throughout v2.0, so the second half of the journey feels less like a repeat visit and more like the next chapter of the adventure.

More to discover after the main journey

v2.0 adds new postgame content beyond the rebuilt main progression, giving returning players more reasons to keep exploring after the core adventure.
